HLW EP RIPLEY conversion

Post by IDMT129 »

For those of you wishing to make an EP Ripley as I have using a 4-4-0 American from Hartland Loco Works, here is a photograph of what you will need from Hartland.

Image

Literally it is a straight stack, a standard boiler with extension, a smoke box front, number plate w/ number 2, two chairs, sand and steam dome (just tell Phil it is for EP, he knows what you need), boiler plugs, and a pilot with coupler and coupler attachment and required brass.

Sorry, Dave, it is completed. If Tom wishes to share the production photos I sent him on how it went from a PRR engine to EP, that will be the only recourse. I have since deleted the photos from my phone.

The only changes I might make to what is mostly a stock conversion are removing the injector branch pipe and placing a new one on the running board, and adding a copper sand line.

Even so, the engine is really sharp, Dennis. You're modeling skills are improving on every project.

bump to keep it up there with CK.

BTW, Hartland is producing 4-4-0's again and will soon release their 4-6-0's. Parts for CK (Lilly Belle) are almost depleted. I do not know the status of the EP parts.

My new Ripley conversion. Did this for someone who Phil Jensen recommended me to. Made several changes now that I am more comfortable working with brass. Brass headlamp, brass eagle, steam line is now parallel to the running board. In the future it will extend past the 2nd boiler band. Banded the air brake in brass. The boiler is banded in brass instead of Hartland tape. Handles on cab are brass. Tender seat is brass handrails. Tender has 2nd brass access hatch attached.

Next go around will remove the extra tool box, Try to straighten out the boiler hand rail and add brakes between the drive wheels instead of the Hartland logo, and the addition of the sand pipes.
