Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad
Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad
I went to Hong Kong Disneyland the other day. They were running one train, the Frank G. Wells. It's disappointing to see a non-steam train at the parks. It was raining and the engine seemed to struggle with 5 cars. The park is very small. It's only 5 minutes between the two stations- Main Street and Fantasyland. They do have a Freght Depot in Mystic Manner but thentrain doesn't stop there. It looks as if they could use it as a station if they wanted to but they don't currently.

Were you there with Terri Jackson or is that just a coincidence you are both at the Park on the same day?

I was not there with him. Interesting though we were there at the same time!

I look at the bright side. At least Hong Kong Disneyland has a train ride. Shanghai Disneyland is the only Disneyland style park that is completely train free. Not only that, Shanghai Disneyland has absolutely no transportation rides at all. That is not a good trend (if this pattern continues) in my opinion.
The lack of steam locomotives at Hong Kong Disneyland is not good, but I'm taking the stance that I'm happy with what we got. When I first went there when the park was about three years old, I was like you - oh no there is no steam here! Now that Shanghai Disneyland has opened without any train ride, my stance has completely changed regarding the Hong Kong park - at least it has a train!
I'll be keeping an open mind however when I visit Shanghai Disneyland for the first time this coming fall. The park does look nice in pictures and videos and the rides do look great. The lack of a train is a big strike against it that I'll just have to try hard to overlook when I first go there.

I couldn't agree with you more. I would rather them have a train than not have a train at all. The trains themselves are still impressive. I wish I could've seen more than one engine. I was still very excited to ride it and see it go by!

Just curious, what did you think of the latest additions to the park - Toy Story Land, Grizzly Gulch, and Mystic Point? Oh, and what did you think of Iron Man Experience? All of those are newer additions that were not there when I last went to Hong Kong Disneyland. When I went there the park was just getting its feet wet and thus was quite small.CC4455 wrote:I went to Hong Kong Disneyland the other day.
Also, have they started the remodeling work on Sleeping Beauty Castle?
What I found odd were the whistles on the locomotives. (They were operating two trains on both days when I was there for two visits to the park.) The steam outline locomotives are American style but the whistles are *very* high pitched and shrill sounding, like what you'd hear coming from a British locomotive. I guess that the people of Hong Kong have had their ears tuned by British ownership of the city for so many years.CC4455 wrote:I couldn't agree with you more.
