Re: Disneyland Paris Roundhouse
Why does the Eureka have a Baldwin Locomotive Works builder plate? I thought she along with the 3 other DLP Trains were built by Sevren Lamb?

Re: Disneyland Paris Roundhouse
It's not a real Baldwin plate. It's based on the one on the Fred Gurley at Disneyland.
Note that the serial number is 14358, but the year is 1853. Baldwin only had built a few hundred engines by that year--maybe not even a thousand at that point.
The plate is purely fictional but does look good! Maybe one day Eddie Sotto will come by here and tell us about the plate!

Re: Disneyland Paris Roundhouse
As a guess, Dan Markoff of Las Vegas owns a locomotive built by Baldwin named Eureka. It was built by Baldwin for the Eureka & Pallisades railroad that was operating in Nevada from 1873 to 1938. If you are making a copy of a Baldwin Locomotive you might want a Baldwin builders plate.

Re: Disneyland Paris Roundhouse
Well, the DPRR Eureka really isn't a copy of Markoff's Eureka, but it's just as good a theory as any other.

Re: Disneyland Paris Roundhouse
The reply from Eddie:
The 14358 relates to the day, month, and year I was hatched. The 1853 relates to the Year of Birth of Tom Yorke, my partner in design crime on the trains, only a century early.
We made fake Baldwin plates for all the locos from scratch (not cast from DL) which was Yorke's work as he is a model railroader himself and led the graphic effort. Not sure why the others are not there except that there may be the french certification plates in their place. Would have to look.

Re: Disneyland Paris Roundhouse
Thanks! That answers my questions. I did not look at her plate in detail but
I was confused when I first looked at it. Thanks everyone!

Re: Disneyland Paris Roundhouse
As to the "Eureka," it was inspired by the "Sonoma" (natural wood cab and stack) and named such to theme it to the gold rush, California and the west coast.
The curved cab window came from various sources, as we wanted to differentiate the locos.
