Builder's Plates: It's been fun.

Post by Steve DeGaetano »

Well, after nearly four years of work, we have finally exhausted the supply of builder's plates from the Disneyland Railroad from which we can draw for reproducing, without copyright repercussions.

To date--beginning with the creation of the Fred Gurley plate in 2007--we've made the Kimball bulder's plate, the Marsh's, and George handled the Kalamazoo. That's four plates. The only remaining plates are the ones for engines 1 and 2, for which exist copyrights, and the Lilly Belle's, which is probably proprietary as well.

So the subject of this thread is, where do we go from here? And who wants to carry the torch?

Wayne has patterns for the Baldwin small number plates, so we could have copies from engines 3 and 4. Then, there are of course the WDW RR engines, which means four number plates and four builder's plates.

It's been a fun series of projects, but I believe I'm done having builder's plates made. So, if anyone is interested in the next stage, just let me know, and I'll pass on Wayne's contact ifo if you don't already have it.

Well thanks for you time and effort in getting the copies out there and available. Maybe if and when the Economy is growing again I'll think about the WDW plates but for now I fear the interest is not real high.

BTMRR plates were done by another Disneyfan and I remember seeing them up for auction from time to time on eBay. I believe that Tom Grace was the one.

It would be cool if there could be one more run for these, in a better economy, for those of us who had to miss out. I'd consider ordering an extra one or two and putting them on the sides of my Jeep :)

Wayne still has the paterns. I know that because of his other projects he simply couldn't spend a lot of time running back and forth from the foundry for our plates. While expensive, he probably makes more money making massive patterns for Shay and Climax gears and the like. But that doesn't mean someone couldn't e-mail him and ask.
