Interesting (sad?) Visitor Message at MC

Post by Steve DeGaetano »

I just got this "visitor message" over at MiceChat (Not sure how that difffers from a PM). At first I thought I read "fire sale," but in a second reading, it doesn't sound like it.
Hey Steve,FWI I'm Todd Levy's widow. I'm sure that means nothing to you. But I'm having a bon fire of everything Disney train on Sept 25.

Because of Todd I own every single post 1956 Disney LGB G-scale and Lionel HO/O-scale train engines & train cars, the 25th anniversary complete in the box set, the 30th and the 35th complete train sets -still in plastic and unopened all; your books, OH along with 2 unopened, and one spine cracked copy of "The Nickel Tour". Additionally, ALL of the ephemera that goes along with it, including 2 original 1960 train oil cans will be joining the fire.
OH and the FINAL fuel on the FIRE will be the hand made Lilly Belle in G-scale made by an imaginneer who actually worked on the real trains and movies.

Should be a lovely fire!!!
Not sure if she's trying to purposefully antagonize me, or she's just grieving in a strange way.:? Either way, it's her stuff...

Ouch! Sounds like a bitter reaction to her late husband's passion. You're right, it's her stuff, but what a waste to history and our hobby.

Yeah, it's too bad. I PM'd her a response, suggesting she might want to consider selling it. Me, I'd rather have a pile of money than a pile of ashes.

If Todd was a member of TCA or TTOS, they'll auction all of it off for her.

If she's serious about burning that stuff, she'll probably be arrested for the toxic smoke and sludge it will produce.

Her stuff....but she will not feel any better with a pile of ashes ....with cash she could at least pay bills or donate to somethings she cares about. It's really selfish to burn money when I hope there is something she cares about.

Her response to my PM:
I may not torch the trains, but the first thing I AM going to put under the flames are the three stupid overly priced "the Nickel Tours" books; who in their correct mind pays a GRAND+ per book no one in disneyana or whatever its called knows what it is????

Thank you for your kind words. If you are in SF, I'd invite you to the bonfire.

Cheers.

If you go to www.abebooks.com, you'll see that some volumes are offered that high (not sure if they sell).

I told her that the fact that people at Disneyana don't know about the book hints at its rarity.
