RIP, Fess Parker

Post by CP173 »

How sad. Fess was a very nice man and a good friend to the Carolwood Society.

Very sad. He made a big impression on my kids when we met him. We went to Disneyland shortly thereafter and my son kept telling all the cast members he met Davy Crockett. One CM from Disneyana kept telling him, "No honey, I am afraid Davy has not been at Dsineyland for quite some time." He insisted that he met the real Davy Crockett not some guy in costume and he got "Davy's" autograph, too. The woman called a manager and confirmed with him that Davy Crockett was not at Disneyland and had not been there for quite a few years. Finally my kid said, "look lady on my hat!! See, "To: Tyler From: Fess Parker, "Davy Crockett" stay in school and be good". She then flushed called the manager back and said, "OMG let someone know Fess is in the Park" I just chuckled cause Disneyland is not where we met him.

Hope Buddy is there to greet you at the Gates.

Thank you Fess! I had the pleasure of seeing him watching the fireworks in Tomorrowland at the Monorail entrance during Disneyland's 25th Anniversary VIP Party. :( Yes, Wine Club member!

In honor of Fess, here is a photo from my collection of him as James J. Andrews in "The Great Locomotive Chase", on the pilot of B&O #25 portraying the "General".

I heard this on the radio the day he died. It is such a shame. He seemed like such a nice man. Years ago, my little sister and I would sit and watch the Davy Crockett shows on TV together. My parents bought her one of the 'coonskin' caps which she wore all of the time. At the D23 Expo they had the original coonskin cap Davy wore on display. I enjoyed seeing the original.

IDMT129, I enjoyed your story about Mr. Parker. I bet you left with a big grin on your face, Dennis!
