AMEN to Rob! The story people at PIXAR haven't missed yet, I hope it rubs off on the whole of Disney
Studios.

The other Hollywood studios seen to have the do it again syndrome, and it's flopping like a fish out of water.

I got this for Father's Day, there was a hole in the box so they discounted it by 30% at the Lego store. I'm already looking at picking up the parts I need to build a tender, as well as buying track. It does lack certain key items for a steam train to actually work, but I can't say I didn't smile when my daughter and I rolled it across the rug while I made chugging sounds :)

I was once one those "really tasteless children" . My head would have exploded if they had that set when the first Toy Story came out; they combined my three big interests at that time, all in one package: trains, Toy Story, and Lego's.

Lego's are neat. I am past 50 year old mark....had them when I was a kid and my kids had them. My 28 YO son and I are gathering the stuff to build a large scale 'Falling Water' of FLW. A model is a model no matter the media.

Sounds like a great Father's day gift to me!!!

You can make anything out of Legos. The problem is: whatever you build with Legos, it looks like IT'S BUILT OUT OF LEGOS !!!

That "problem" was why Lego appealed to me as a child. I liked that Lego brick look in the cars, trains, and airplanes that I made with Lego. My little nephew has a lot of the new Star Wars Lego kits and the problem with them is that Lego has completely changed their methods. Now the kits have very specific parts that can only be used to build the models shown in the instructions. They cannot be used for any other models. One of the appeals of Lego when I was a kid was that the bricks were all generically shaped so that they could be used to build anything and everything. In today's Lego kits, a T.I.E. interceptor wing is *very* accurately shaped to prevent the "Lego Look" but the drawback is that that wing can only be used on a T.I.E. Interceptor and for no other model.

By the way, I know some Lego enthusiasts and there is a specific terminology that those guys use. This was all news to me too when I used what they called the "wrong" terminology.

Lego - the name of the toy. There is no such word as "Legos."

Correct: "I play with Lego." Incorrect: "I play with Legos."

Lego Bricks - the individual plastic building pieces. They are never ever called "Legos."

There may be some Lego enthusiasts here so please correct me if I'm wrong there. I'm certainly not the expert in these things, especially when myself and every single other little kid that I knew growing up used what the adults today deem the "incorrect" Lego teminology. :D

If anyone is interested in Lego, you might want to check out this episode of James May's Toy Stories. I love James May when he hosts Top Gear. He has a dry, funny British sense of humor that I love.

You can still buy "generic" Lego kits with the basic shapes--you don't necessarily need to buy specific kits for specific models.

However, even back in the day (1970s, for me) you could buy specific kits with specific shapes. I have fond memories of an Apollo style rocket (made with circular bricks).

And FWIW, I played with LegoS and so do my boys. Silly terminology be damned.

Always has been and always will be Legos. My daughter loves them, I still love them. One of the best toys ever! I'm torn on the specialty parts, but I will say this, I can ALWAYS find a use for the specialty parts!
