injector on # 2

Post by thegeneral440 »

This may be old news but new to me. When and why did they change the plumbing and injector handle in the #2? I saw it on YouTube!

Do you have a link?

EDIT: I'm guessing you mean this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2VTF7uNwHc

Looks like an actual locomotive injector on the fireman's side, at least! Very cool. You can see it in operation at the 7:57 mark. He closes it at about 8:53. Interesting that the water valve appears to be open constantly? When adding water, the fireman just pulls back on the steam lever, and closes it to stop the injector. Never touches that water valve (the brass hand valve just below the lever). Never seen that before.

I wonder what the plumbing looks like along the fireman's side of the boiler, since the injector is now much higher?

Also of note, the crew have fitted hats!

Yes I am talking about that video indeed.Looks like the injector in some bigger trains except smaller, I would assume 5/8 scale.

It’s probably not made “to scale,” it’s just a smaller injector.

Thanks Sam! That was my next question. Those things look amazing! Will all the engines get them eventually?

Thank you S. Towler for the Eccentric Engineer link.

Something interesting is on this page:

https://www.eccentricengineer.com/ee-no ... x-injector

It says the following:
Currently in operation on a high use, high service railroad and performing flawlessly!
Hmmmm...can anyone guess what "high use, high service railroad" they are referring to?

That thing is a work of art. I'd buy one just to display it!

The workmanship is fantastic. Engine 2 has them on both sides, while 1,2, and 4 have them on just the fireman's side. Engine 5 is still "old school" until it goes out for rebuild eventually.
