Freight House History

I've never really given too much thought to the little freight house next to the Frontierland/New Orleans Square train station. It doesn't appear in too many (any?) early photos. However, in yesterday's post on "Gorillas Don't Blog," it photobombs a shot of the Columbia being built, sometime in 1958. In a zoom, its gingerbread roof trim, smoke stack, and some vertical board-and-batten siding can be seen through the foliage. What makes it even more interesting, is that it appears on the Park side of the train tracks! Would this be close to where the Haunted Manion is today?

In the "comments" section, Mike Cozart explains that the freight house was originally the Frontierland restrooms! This would seem to explain the building's double sets of doors on either end.

This is a neat bit of history I had never heard before. It's amazing that so far, not one clear photo of this structure in its original location has turned up.

I’m not overly amazed that there haven’t been any good photos of the freight building in its original location: in the Park’s early days, most guests weren’t obsessed with recording every minute detail as they are today. And a family photo in front of some bathrooms would just be weird.

That's an interesting, new tidbit for me as well! What's more interesting is that the depot appears in the "Two Brothers" segment of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln as "Muller's Landing" as a station from the Civil War. The image is cropped pretty tight though so no context as to when that "old" photo was taken or where the Freight Depot was located.
