Post by Bruce R Pier »

I'm seeing reports that the railroad as been down this past week. One person has reported that there were two attempts to open, once with the Galloping Goose and the other time with the full train. Both time they closed early

Interesting...does anyone know what the problem was?

All my contacts are retired, and now live outside of CA. Nobody is saying anything. I seem to recall that they just had all the track relaid recently. With the steady high temperatures perhaps kinks may have developed in the track.

I'm now hearing that they had not finished reworking the track and that they had decided to continue the work at this time. Considering what I have viewed on the Calico Mine cam they haven't exactly been busy the last few weeks.

Updates from acquaintence who used to work at the Farm They did indeed have a sun kink that caused the 41 to have a "minor" derailment. They called the contractor back out to correct the problem. Apparently because the 41 had at least one set of wheels on the ground they have to have it inspected before it can go back in service. Also the Galloping Goose is in the process of having a new clutch installed.
