Knotts has retired and apparently sold the Crown that was in Camp Snoopy. It was replaced by a battery powered steam outline. While they are trying to say that the change was "enviornmental" the rumblings are that they no longer have to have an engineer from the Ghost Town & Calico operate it. The state permits a regular ride operator to run it. Big difference in pay scale. On another note the Cedar Point and Lake Erie has sent the Davenstein to FMW for a complete overhaul. As per all Cedar Fair contracts involving steam locomotives there is a non disclosure clause in it, so don't expect much in the way of progress reports.

That's a bummer. I liked that little steamer very much. I wonder who bought it?

Ugh...I cannot say that I am surprised. Has Knott's Berry Farm been "Flagged" like so many other parks in the Six Flags chain? Getting rid of a steam locomotive is possibly a sign of things to come.

I know that Camp Snoopy is going through a lot of construction currently but I did not know that replacing the Crown locomotive was one of the things on the "to-do" list. Unfortunately, that little train ride has gone through a lot of terrible changes along the way during its history so this was the bad icing on the cake.

Someone on one of the theme park train pages on FB has claimed to have seen it on a trailer headed for the Interstate,

Bruce are you talking about the anonymous post where they claim they have it? The post has photos of it in the park the night it went missing and photos of it in a warehouse

Back to 41, I was able to pick up a monthly locomotive inspection and repair report from the Rio Grande Southern, dated November 7, 1938 for No. 41! The safety valves were set at 160 and163 psi, and the testing took place in Ridgeway, CO. Inspector was L.J. Leakey. A neat piece of history for an engine that still runs!

Thanks for the details Steve!

For some reason I got a little chuckle out of the fact that the locomotive inspector's name was "Leakey."
