Train at Silver Dollar City derailed

Post by Locoboy5150 »

The train at Silver Dollar City derailed Wednesday (10-26-22.) Here's a link to a CNN story about it:

You're fast! I just saw this today on Yahoo. Is that railroad 2-foot gauge?

Let the speculation begin!

I read that yes, it is two foot gauge. I have yet to visit Silver Dollar City so I have not seen this train in person. After reading up on it recently, they have four O & K locomotives. As far as I know, they probably have the largest collection of O & K locomotives in the US. That's a brand of steam locomotive that you just don't come across in the US very often.

O & K stands for Orenstein & Koppel, a German locomotive manufacturer. I did not know anything about the company until I did some research into the LGB model 2017D locomotive that I had bought for my layout many years ago. I found out that it was roughly based on an O & K locomotive that operated on the long-gone Alton and Pacific RR heritage railroad near Eureka, California.

I have very vague memories of the train ride, and the train robbery, from a visit that was probably in the late 1970s. Curious to see if they ever disclose the cause of the derailment.
