The physical assets only of the operation are for sale, I hear $400, 000. The ROW they operated on was all leased, and leases are not being renewed.

Re: LK&P Liquidating
Sad. It wasn't well maintained in the later years, but it was still a beautiful little railroad. I hope the equipment finds a good home.

Re: LK&P Liquidating
This is sad as the "Sugar Cane Train" was one of the main reasons why I wanted to ever visit Hawaii in the first place. My wife has been talking about going there recently (neither one of us has ever been to Hawaii) and while there still is a lot to see and do there, losing the train is not a motivational factor to get me to go there compared to somewhere else.

Re: LK&P Liquidating
At one time Knotts was hoping get a third smaller locomotive for use during the winter months, on the days when there was too much traffic for the Galloping Goose, but not quite enough to justify firing up a C-19. Either one of these would be perfect. From the looks of it , the sale is a package deal, including rolling stock and rail.
Re: LK&P Liquidating
Yes, it looks like a bundle deal. Much of the motive power wasn't operable when I was last there. Their Porter could be steamed, but certainly could use a major overhaul before being put into regular service.
I'm hoping one of the other 3' gauge railroads in Hawaii buys it. Cute little engine!

Re: LK&P Liquidating
As probably most of you have heard, Lahaina has been completely burned to the ground, the LK&P station is a pile of ashes, the turntable decking is gone. The display locomotive out front is singed a bit and remarkably most of the paint appears to be intact. The fire has seemed to have missed the facilities on the other end of the line, but so far no one but authorized personnel have been up there, and they haven't said anything about it.
