Here's a video showing the restoration of the Sumpter Valley Railway's 2-8-2 mikado number 19:

It is an older video but I just stumbled across it today and thought that everyone would get a kick out of it. In case anyone is bored staying at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, hopefully the video will give you some ideas for a new D-I-Y project!

Re: How to restore a steam locomotive
I've seen this several times. I'd totally do it. The only problem is finding a locomotive to restore!
Howdy Folks, and Welcome aboard the Tweetsie Railroad!

Hey, Tweetsie190, I assure you that is *not* the only problem. I can think of about 400,000 other problems.

True that. Like, how much is it going to cost, what sort of condition is it in, where you gonna store it, and most importantly: Where you gonna fun it?

Oh, the 400,000 other problems are all "cost". Storage, condition, running (or "funning") are non-issues.

Re: How to restore a steam locomotive
Don't forget about the most expensive cost of the project - the cost of the divorce after you come home with this new D-I-Y project and your wife (if you're married) finds out about it!
Don't get me wrong though because, believe me, I have a *VERY* understanding wife when it comes to my numerous hobbies and interests. If I started restoring a steam locomotive in my free time though, that would probably push her (and our marriage) straight over the edge!
