Smoke and Fire o’er Doe River Gorge

Post by tweetsie190 »

So, recently, a HUGE development has been made, not just for fans of the ET&WNC, but for fans of theme park steam as well. Recently, Doe River Gorge Ministries, who owns and operates 3 miles of the former East Tennessee & Western North Carolina (ET&WNC) Railroad, recently Test-fired their 3 foot Gauge Crown Metal Products 4-4-0, formerly from Dry Gulch U.S.A. in Oklahoma. Although it hasn't officially been announced, The picture shown in the Facebook post below shows the 1967-built Crown being test-fired after a lengthy restoration that's taken place over the past few years. Further work still needs to take place before the locomotive is able to operate again, including winterizing the engine and finishing the boiler jacket. https://m.facebook.com/doerivergorge/ph ... &source=48
Howdy Folks, and Welcome aboard the Tweetsie Railroad!

So I saw Doe River Gorge test fired their Crown. But its the Crown from Pioneer & Western Railroad and #3. The Dry Gulch Crown is at Worlds of Fun Amusement park in Kansas City, MO and recently got some boiler work done along with a bunch of firebox work.

Thanks for posting this, I had no idea they were this close.
Such a shame they wouldn't paint her in 'anniversary' green and gold but at least she'll be painted like the 19th century ET&WNC colors (sort of) and the correct road name.
DRG is amazing, one of the best kept secrets in RR preservation and rivals anything seen on the old D&RGW!

This isn't Tweetsie RR, this is a Christian camp in Hampton, TN which owns the original ET&WNC grade through the Doe River Gorge area.
