Steve DeGaetano wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2020 10:56 am The Marsh is a fantasy creation. It never had a "Great Depression" appearance. If you're trying to say that the Marsh, based on the Montezuma, should be forward-dated to what the Montezuma would have looked like in the 1930s, the engine never made it out of the 1880s, so again, that would be another fantasy proposition.
Yes Steve, I know Disney bought a used 0-4-0 and Foosed it up.
Steve DeGaetano wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2020 10:56 am Roy, why are you so rigid? Why can't we have locomotives from all kinds of different eras? Diamond stacks, box headlights, shotgun stacks and steam generators. What's wrong with variety?
Get metal shavings in your porridge again, Steve? Would you like someone to repaint your local park loco in a camouflage scheme of flat diarrhea brown and vomit green? There's a place for trains painted and accoutred for the Depression. Maybe, it's Walton's Mountain. Or, Dollywood.

Now Roy, your negativity and pseudo-trolling were the reasons I banned you years ago. I hope that it doesn't happen again.

As has been pointed out on these boards before and to me by some Disney tour guides at the "Magic Behind the Steam Train" tour at WDW, these amusement/theme park trains are attractions at a business that's main goal is to turn a profit. They are NOT part of a historical society with an implied duty to keep the engine in the proper paint/configuration to match it's place in history.

It is a testament to each parent corporation that they continue to maintain and operate steam locomotives. It is an expensive endeavor - both with labor, and manufacturing parts to keep them running in a safe operation - that allow those of us to relive the days when steam travel was the main mode of transportation.

Do I have my favorite looks/style of the various locomotives in operation around the country? ..."yes". But I am also acutely aware that it is the owners of the locomotives right to date their park trains however they see fit. Personally, I am just happy to ride behind a steam engine. :D

Hey, what's going on with Knott's train? I first thought the pandemic rules must be at play causing the shutdown of the railroad, but with the rules lifted now, I thought the train would be running again. Haven't seen either of the locomotives at the depot in weeks. Knott's has a great live cam, one of which is aimed at the train. Thanks for any update!

They have to rehire the staff, I would imagine that they probably only kept on whoever were doing the actual maintenance on them, the rest of the crew was laid off when it appeared that they wouldn't be re opening for a while. All my contacts at the Farm have either retired or moved on to other positions, but I would surmise this is the case
