Roy's 100th in 2016
Does anyone from WDWRR, including management, coordinators, and "regular" Cast, or you "behind the scenes" types, know if there's going to be a "100th anniversary" celebration for Roy next year? Being built in 1916, she is the *oldest* of the Magic Kingdom attraction vehicles - regardless of what a LOT of "Disney history" Web sites will tell you. I'm making two trips to Orlando next year, and, if anything is happening for this, I would like to participate/attend if at all possible. Thanks!

The only ride that comes close is in age is the Carousel. If I remember the one at WDW was built in Philly around 1917.

While only very remotely related, I remember that DRR's Engine 3 had a small round plaque (like a number plate) attached to its running board in 1994 to commemorate its 100th birthday. It was only there for a few months though and I only snapped one photo of it at Main Street Station before it disappeared forever.

Correct - and it's nearly *always* misquoted as being the "oldest attraction in the park".IDMT129 wrote:The only ride that comes close is in age is the Carousel. If I remember the one at WDW was built in Philly around 1917.
On a related note, I chatted with a CM friend of mine - who happens to be a Main Street Operations (Attractions) manager. He assured me that *something* IS being planned, but details are still being worked on.

Woo hoo, they'll actually operate Engine 4 when I'm at the Magic Kingdom! That's the big 100th birthday celebration! I knew that it would *FINALLY* happen!Main Steet Jim wrote:He assured me that *something* IS being planned, but details are still being worked on.
Yeah, right...I'm 0 for 3 on riding behind Engine 4 during a Florida vacation and still counting.

Ummm....as far as I know, Roy's been a "daily driver" quite a bit ever since Lilly's been gone. They use Roger mostly for the show train in the mornings, which leaves Walt and Roy as the two "daily runners"...Locoboy5150 wrote:Woo hoo, they'll actually operate Engine 4 when I'm at the Magic Kingdom! Normally that is the case...except when I'm there.Main Steet Jim wrote:Ummm....as far as I know, Roy's been a "daily driver" quite a bit ever since Lilly's been gone. They use Roger mostly for the show train in the mornings, which leaves Walt and Roy as the two "daily runners"...

I've been to WDW on three separate two week long vacations, in 1999, 2000, and 2011. I went to the Magic Kingdom 3 or 4 times during each of those trips. The *only* time that I've ever seen Engine 4 moving in my life was in 2011 when it was relegated to morning show train duty and then put back in the engine house, never to be seen again throughout the day.
To this day, it is still the only WDWRR locomotive that I have never ridden behind. I specifically looked for it and asked the WDWRR Cast Members if it was on the line during my visits too. Nope!
Yep...they just like to torture me!

Wow! Locoboy, sorry to hear of your misfortune. So here is how our trip went in 2011.
Roger did the morning pull through for the tour group, then took us back to the roundhouse. Walter did the morning show. We prepped Roy for the day and then boarded for the trip back to Main Street. Roger stayed in the barn all day, Roy and Walt worked the rest of the day. I also met the female engine that stalks these boards, whose name escapes me at the moment.

Spent a few days at WDW during the first week of August and was amazed to see Walt, Roy & Roger on the loop at the same time most of the day.

It's quite common to see the three of them running during the peak seasons.
