That's a fine model, Sam! 8) Thanks, for sharing that nice photo of it. How did you make it? Do you have cars for it?

Re: Knott's No. 41

Knott's has changed a lot, since the 1960s. Back then, it was all about the old west. We even had a school field trip to the park, to see the California Mission models they had displayed in a brick wall near the train tracks. Later, Knott built an exact, brick-for-brick replica of Independence Hall,...

Re: LEGO DLRR - MSS and Holliday

Back in those days there was no such term as "G gauge." It was G scale...a least according to LGB who supposedly invented it. It seems that newer large scale modelers today use "scale" and "gauge" interchangeably, which was a major no-no back in the days of us crusty o...

Re: Tokyo Disney Western River Railroad locomotive.

I can understand the appeal of the Tomix Tokyo Disneyland models. I remember seeing them in a hobbyshop back in the 1980s. They were too expensive, even then. If you look around, I'm sure you can find a suitable N gauge mechanism to use for an HOn30, or OO9 model. I looked online, but I could find n...

Re: Knott's No. 41

I agree with Bruce. Knott's original circus paint schemes were ridiculous looking. The mash up of pointy cowcatchers. fake box headlights, diamond stacks and round domes, extended smokeboxes and generators never worked. https://sites.google.com/site/drgw223/_/rsrc/1321736600803/a-brief-history/C-16...

Re: LEGO DLRR - MSS and Holliday

I miss the hey-day of LGB when it was referred to as "G scale" and nothing else. (1/22.5 scale trains that operate on 45 mm gauge track.) Now I get SO confused. I'm old school - I still use the old LGB terms. I think the 1:22.5 scale was predicated on European meter gauge trains. LGB re-p...

Re: LEGO DLRR - MSS and Holliday

It's always good, to find a bargain. I read that Lego track is 37.5 mm gauge. For yucks, I ran the numbers. Representing three foot gauge, this gives a scale close to 1:24, or 1/2" to the foot. This is a sensible, and fairly common, model building scale. I have a G gauge Delton C-16 which is bu...

Re: Knott's No. 41

Knott never fully backdated the train. He could've cut the smokeboxes back, and put the box headlights on old-style overhanging brackets. Also, he could've restored the dome rings, the Russia iron boiler jacketing, the flare top tenders, and the open platforms to the converted, enclosed-vestibule co...

Re: Knott's No. 41

Of course, it was meant to tie in with the movie "Denver and Rio Grande," released the same year, and which prominently featured the bumblebee scheme. My childhood booklet has photos of the head-on crash from the movie. There are those who like to cite all instances of steamers painted in...
