Re: Six Flags Over GA RR fire
I figured that articles of the moment would not be very accurate. I looked at SteamLocomotive.info and found that the two Six Flags Over Georgia locomotives had been "dieselized." While I had a sense of what this meant, they didn't define it well on the site. http://steamlocomotive.info/vl...

Re: DRR sim update
My advice re: firing is... do less than you think you need to, and be very proactive. Ie, you don't need to be moving and adjusting the fuel valve all that much. Make light corrections and see what happens. And as being proactive: build pressure before you need it, add water before you need it! I c...

Re: Question about Rainbow Falls - NWRR
I've done some work with Adobe After Effects on the best version of the video I can find. The process involves drawing polygon masks and applying a color effect>color balance to it so that the color is added. The result is decent. It is tedious, of course. Here is a postcard of Staircase Falls. It i...

Re: Question about Rainbow Falls - NWRR
I wonder what it would take to colorize the black and white footage? Do you need the original film for the process or can we use digital footage? It is possible to use a video editing program like Adobe AfterEffects to add color to a video clip. It is somewhat tedious so it has to be worth the time...

Re: Question about Rainbow Falls - NWRR
That video is a complete cheat with some process tool like Adobe AfterEffects. (Note the description on YouTube). They made some very wrong guesses about the colors. It is a nice try though. I won't list the errors just now since it is late. There are also video clips (such as stalactites) that are ...

Re: Question about Rainbow Falls - NWRR
For most of the waterfalls the colored water dropped into a small pool which was recycled for that same fountain. The waterfall with the most colors in use was "Rainbow Falls" and it used six fluorescent colors to achieve the effect. In the lower section there were small walls to prevent s...

Re: Disneyland Railroad returns 7/29/17
The trains I saw in the videos were not as long as described. It would have been interesting to see 10 or more coaches behind the locomotive. Now, there are some other possibilities. For example, this is probably the first or second day back online for both the equipment and the crews. Perhaps they ...

Re: 30" Gauge Disney Railroads?
No. I don't think the Calico Mine Train Ride locomotives were based on Mancha mining locomotives. Some of the wheels look similar so it is possible. There's an E-Ticket Magazine article about the ride so perhaps some details will be found there. As I recall, the Calico trains were developed by Bud H...

Re: 30" Gauge Disney Railroads?
Yes, the Mine Train at Disneyland (1956-1977) used a Mancha electric mining locomotive that was disguised to look like a high-side tender. The cast member operator sat upon this with the air and manual brake controls and the throttle and sander. This pulled the 6 or 7 ore cars with passengers and pu...

Re: Disneyland Railroad returns 7/29/17
It is possible that they had to wait until they had some non-skid surface on the top of he tender to address an OSHA concern. I recall a statement about work being done on one of he tenders along this line. The combination of spilled oil or grease and water makes for a very slippery and dangerous co...
